The Australian Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a long hot Summer ahead, with the season expected to be warmer and drier than average.

Locals are being encouraged to utilise the outdoor pool facilities at the Benalla Aquatic Centre as a “good Summer option.”

The Outdoor pool opens on Saturday 1 December.

The Outside pool, will be open 12.00pm to 6.00pm on weekends, and 6.00am to 9.00am and then 3.45pm to 7.00pm weekdays during the school term. During school holidays, the pool will be open 6.00am to 9am and 12.00noon to 7.00pm and on days of extreme heat, the hours will be extended.

Elise Wood, manager of the Benalla Aquatic Centre, says that the pool and surrounds were looking in top shape ready for the season ahead.

“We’re preparing for a bumper season as temperatures have already started to increase and are predicted to be above average this summer.”

Mrs Wood says the Benalla Aquatic team is keen to see the town’s families and youth utilise the outdoor facilities, enjoying some physical activity together in and out of the pool.

“We love seeing the kids and families enjoying a game of cricket on the lawn and then cooling off together in the water – just having fun.”

Current YMCA Swimming Lesson members can enjoy free entry to the outdoor pool all season.

The first day of operation of the Outside pool is Saturday 1 December from 12.00pm.  Entry is $7.00 for adults or $6.00 with concession and $5.00 for children.
